exercise_austin_texas_personal_trainingReading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.  Sir Richard SteeleUltimately, the only power to which man should aspire is that which he exercises over himself.  Elie Wiesel (1928 - )To resist the frigidity of old age one must combine the body, the mind and the heart - and to keep them in parallel vigor one must exercise, study and love.  Karl von BonstettenWalking’s the best exercise. Habituate yourself to walk very far.  Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826)Old minds are like old horses; you must exercise them if you wish to keep them in working order.  John Adams (1735 - 1826)

jilian_personal_fitness_trainer_mobileFollow these 5 simple rules for 30 days to get a head start on better health!By Jillian MichaelsDo me a favor: next time you’re in a supermarket, take a close look at the ingredients list on almost any packaged food.  How many have you heard of?  How many are you unable to pronounce?  If you haven’t done this recently, you may be surprised at the number of listed ingredients that look like they belong in Super Glue rather than in something you’re about to put in your body.  These dangerous chemicals are used by food companies to color, stabilize, emulsify, bleach, texturize, preserve, sweeten, and add or mask odor and flavor.  Apart from being linked to a range of autoimmune diseases, from cancer to multiple sclerosis to diabetes, these chemical food-substitutes are loaded with sodium, trans fats, processed grains, and refined sugars, all of which are going to hold you back on your way to having the best body you’ve ever had.To make it simple for you, I’ll tell you that the following foods are loaded with trans fats, sodium, processed grains, and refined sugar and are to be avoided at all costs: fast foods, sodas, juice, pastries (cookies, cakes, pies), candy, chips, processed meats, processed dairy (American cheese, Cheese Whiz, etc.), high-sodium canned or frozen foods, and anything white (white bread, pasta, white rice). In addition to avoiding these foods like the plague, follow these guidelines for the next 30 days — and hopefully for the rest of your life!If it’s a nonfood, don’t eat it!The longer it lasts on the shelf, the worse it is for you.Never eat anything with the words hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils/fats in the list of ingredients.Avoid refined sugars and high-fructose corn syrup (sometimes labeled HFCS) at all costs.Never eat any food product that has been “enriched.”

yoga_austin_texas_mobile_fitnessyoga_austin_texas_mobile_fitnessyoga_austin_texas_mobile_fitnessyoga_austin_texas_mobile_fitnessYoga is an ancient system of health and fitness which originated in India.  Today yoga is accepted as a comprehensive exercise to promote control of the body and mind.  Yoga has become accepted as one of the best ways to achieve health, fitness and balance.Literally yoga means to unite, and it is through yoga that we work towards uniting the harmonious integration of the body, mind and spirit.  In this way the result is optimal health and longevity.

Yoga is not a belief or a religion but a way for us to reach our greater potential.  Yoga is a refined system that works on developing and balancing strength and flexibility, stamina, focus and endurance.  Through a series of physical poses and a focus on the breath and an awareness of the body yoga helps us to deepen our sense of well being.

I practiced Bikram Yoga for about 6 months a few years ago and highly recommend it.  I stretch or practice yoga at home every day for 45-60 minutes. However, with Bikram Yoga the room is 110 degrees and it’s definitely a challenging type of exercise, given the heat.  But the sweating like there’s no tomorrow will help flush out toxins and align and shape your body.  Bikram and ashtanga (power) yoga seem to be the most physically demanding.  Restorative yoga is a better starting option, imo, for older adults and de-conditioned athletes.Click on each asana for tips on how to perform the exercise correctly.
